A not-for-profit organisation in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Gateway Community Services provides social lifestyle programs, emergency food relief, disability respite, training and volunteer engagement for the well-being of the community. Established in 1984 it was time for new branding which would better portray the organisation as vibrant, fun and contemporary - with friendly, enthusiastic staff and volunteers. Branding needed to convey professionalism, diversity, multiculturalism and community values to a wide audience of clients, carers, volunteers, community groups, corporate and government stakeholders.
I found Gateway through 'Good Company' - an online platform charities can use to to find professionals willing to volunteer their expertise for specific projects. After meeting with William Kelly, General Manager, and learning about the amazing work Gateway do in the community I was keen to help with their brand redesign project. Working directly with William (the charity doesn't have a Marketing Department) was a really rewarding experience and at completion they approached me to continue. I was really keen to be involved and a 'community rate' was agreed. I continued assisting on this basis for almost four years. Managing the account by creating a 'rolling agenda', I met in his office twice a month to identify the organisations upcoming communication goals and needs which I would fullfill remotely. I developed and produced a wide variety of marketing collateral for the organisation including material for successful fundraising campaigns and authoring a social media strategy and calendar for the organisation, growing a Facebook following through a mixture of regular strategic posts and paid advertising.

The new Gateway Community Services brand identity is emotive and vibrant with multiple colours suggesting diversity and fun. A layered mosaic effect creates recognisable and flexible branding with different colour themes to identify different services. The 'friendship hands' from the 1980's logo (shown right) were requested for familiarity, but redesigned to suggest a contemporary, strong and supportive people-oriented organisation. Typography is clear and corporate with a rounded flow that's friendly and approachable. |

Community Wheels Appeal Social Media Fundraising Campaign
Campaign Idea
'We pick up those left behind'
'We pick up those left behind'
Gateway Community Transport Services’ volunteers collect over 250 members per week from their own homes and transport them to various activities. These members are largely reliant on pensions, unable to afford taxis or to travel independently. They are often left at home, alone and forgotten. Gateway needed to raise $60,000 to purchase a new minibus to keep up with demand and so the ‘Community Wheels Appeal’ fundraising campaign was born. After researching and creating a brief to educate and raise awareness for an advertising campaign for public and corporate sponsors, I developed the ‘Picking up those left behind’ campaign idea. This was then integrated across various channels such as newspapers, flyers and Social Media. Attracting a measurable emotional response and target donations in half the allocated campaign timing, the client was really happy, and a new branded minibus was soon purchased to service the community!
